welcome.
Bloomfield is a small side project by Lauren Hansen. An idea formed many moons ago doodling future wine labels in uni lectures, finally come to fruition in 2024.
Three small parcels of grapes sourced from around the Limestone Coast. Grüner Veltliner from Mount Benson, Petit Verdot from Wrattonbully, and Mencia from Mundulla.
Who is Lauren?
A wine nerd, and a dork. AND a dog mum to Morrie.
In her day job, Lauren is the senior winemaker at Penley in Coonawarra. But also, she is a dux of the Len Evans Tutorial (sounds fancy, it is). She’s worked in many wine regions, learnt from many winemakers, and tasted many fancy wines. All of this just fuelled the drive to do her own thing. She’s spent her time scrubbing floors, driving forklifts, tasting barrels (winemaking is glamorous…) and decided it was time to have a crack at the sales and marketing thing too.
what’s in a name?
Bloomfield. In a matriarchal society, it would have been my surname. My Mum’s maiden name. The name of the most wonderful little patch of native Australian scrub where we like to share a wine around the campfire. I’ve grown up amongst a family of fierce, brave, incredible women that taught me I could do anything if I put my mind to it. Mum’s famous line “if you want to be a truck driver, be a truck driver - just be a bloody good one” - I think she was secretly happy I chose winemaking.
